Geir Jordahl: Rediscovering America Begins

Dear Friends:

Last October I embarked on the first leg of a creative journey I call "Rediscovering America." That first journey lasted one month and took me from the San Francisco Bay Area to Toronto, Canada via Wyoming, Nebraska, the Dakotas, Iowa, Minnesota and the great Lakes into Canada where I visited our good friends, Greg Stidham and Victoria Sheridan. Below are a few images from this sojourn. The impetus for this project is grounded in my need to reconnect with the spirit of America.

The last years have been challenging times for all Americans and the daily political rhetoric has, in my opinion, created a sense of despair and deadened the honest magic and goodness that make this country and its people great. Not great in a sense of being “better” but rather grounded in a sense of greatness that I grew up hearing about from my father when we immigrated from Norway in 1961.

These journeys are in a sense a pilgrimage and continue in the “Searching for True North” vein. My goal is to make a portfolio of work and eventually a book that speaks to some universal truth that embodies my sense of the United States we call America.

Stay tuned in the coming months for more news and pictures and by all means, feel free to send your comments.
